About Us

Our Story
As a mother of five and an aunt of 21, I became very aware of the amount of waste my family produced. I started to look for ways to cut down. Reusable water bottles for everyone. No plastic in lunch boxes. We joined the schools environmental club and introduced vermicomposting, then we started the schools first lunchroom composting program, diverting hundreds of pounds of waste from the landfills monthly.
We moved to Barrington Hills in 2017 and started to dream of ways to use our five acre property. My sister and I took permaculture classes and used those principles to plant an orchard with 27 fruiting trees. During the pandemic my dad and brother helped my children build a chicken coop. We enjoyed farm fresh eggs all throughout the 2020 quarantine. My love for being outside and being connected to nature grew. We have added gardens, bees, and barn cats. I love watching things grow.
When I was introduced to the concept of aquaponics I knew we could do it and that it would make a lasting impact on my family and the environment. The more we learned, the more excited we got. In 2023 Aqua Barn Farm was created and life changed. My brother Owen quit his job and along with our parents we began to navigate the confusing world of becoming entrepreneurs. Building permits, land surveys, electrical schedules and property setbacks became our daily lives and stresses. We learned a lot and we are very proud of how far we have come. We can finally focus on farming healthy food for the community and protecting the environment for future generations.
